The Kraft Home, a 5 Star Rated Built Green Home. It is an example of building small and building green.
At less than 1500 square feet, this house demonstrates many green features. As you walk up to the house, you can spot a solar collector on the roof. This collector preheats cold water in the winter and provides up to 60% hot water during peak production. Behind the cedar siding is a rain screen built over 1” rigid foam. The house is built with a radiant heat, polished concrete slab on grade floor system and utilizes advanced framing and engineered wood products. Insulation is made from recycled blue jeans and the majority of millwork materials come from reclaimed lumber. A part of the living room has a “demonstration wall” that highlights a locally obtained clay-and-sand mixture as the finished wall surface. The owners put a lot of their own energy into their house and it is very evident in the concrete counter tops and the spiral staircase leading to the 2nd floor.
